Last class

"Thank you Julian"

Oddly enough I find myself getting attached to these teaches when I've only known them for about 6-8 weeks but they are so passionate and engaged in what they are doing that it is almost impossible to be influence by their taste and preferences. With Julian we had classes on the history of art which range from the renaissance period right up until the Avant Garde. Each week we used what he called the flipped classroom method in which we would present a 5 minute presentation of a topic given to us - which aligned with the period we would be studying that week. After each class we then had to write a 1,000 essay explaining what we had learnt, quite intense but definitely worth it. Not only did it mean we had to reflect but it tested whether we really knew the information or not. Julian was always there to give us a hand if we needed it and made sure he explained everything well.

Whilst very theoretical it did really help me in understanding how each period within art was characterised and what drove the movement behind each stage. As expected I can't and probably won't remember every detail but what it did do was allow me to think about how I could use colour, textures and details in my work to align with different periods or move towards more modern perspectives.
