"That couldn't really have happened"
Sobrino de Botín, founded in 1725, is the oldest restaurant still running in the world. The restaurant was founded by a French man Jean Botin and his spouse, and was originally called Casa Botín. It was inherited by a nephew of theirs called Candido Remis, thus explaining the change of name to Sobrino de Botín, which survives to this day.
When you fail to realise that the worlds longest running restaurant is literally at your feet, you kind of realise that maybe you don't know your surroundings as well as you thought. It seems that most of my days remain unplanned and very impromptu so when I caught wind of this tour happening I was definitely ready and waiting to go. Set with a halloween the tour gave us an insight into the streets of Madrid. It was nice to stay within the area and still learn a thing or two. The tour was looking into some of the stories that began on the stress of Madrid that would leave some to believe it was a myth. From multiple murders, beheadings, torture, jewel thieves and the conversion of some buildings to create what we see today. It was a short but sweet tour, which ended with a 'meet and speak' event.
A chance to mingle and get to know the other international students in the area. As per usual it was nice to step outside and do something different. Plus they were serving cupcakes so why not!
